Old Navy Blue

What's up Chica's? I hope you're staying warm if its cold where you are and staying cool if its' hot.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love Old Navy. Their clothing fits my casual sense of style, but I also love them because most of their clothes can be dressed up or down, the patterns, colors and shapes are classic and timeless.

As you know, big sweaters are in. So, when I saw this big, knit tan sweater vest on the clearance rack, you know I had to have it. Neutrals are great for layering which is also trending.

Well, I was on my way out, when this cream and navy blue striped shirt caught my eye. I rushed over to see if it was on sale and it was! I left Old Navy with 2 great pieces for under $20.

The next day I couldn't wait to wear the outfit to school. I paired it with leggings, my cognac colored wedge boots and a pop of color... of course. I was warm and fabulous. The necklace you see is the same gold chain that was with the croc clutch that I thrifted and blogged about several posts ago. You can find that post here.

Upcoming blog: How many ways can you wear the same necklace???

Sincerely,
A GeekChicChica

Spring Is Here!!!

Afternoon Chica's! Ok, Spring's not here yet, but I just really can't wait for Spring to wear all my bright colors and sundresses. I don't really care who's looking or who thinks I'm cold, but I am more than ready for Spring! LOL Today I wore a vibrant floral print cotton dress from Old Navy, via my local thrift store, with a jean shirt and hot pink tights. I paired it with my brown 3" heel cognac boots and a sweater to keep me warm (not pictured here).

She Get It From Her Momma!

We often talk about first lady, Michelle Obama's impressive, seemingly flawless, classic and elegant style. It's true, the woman knows how to dress her body and she wears everything with confidence, but I'd like to touch a little on the younger Obama's, Malia and Sasha (Natasha). At ages 14 and 11 they have some serious style that is just as impressive and classic as mom's.

Pictured here with President Obama, Sasha and Malia (left to right) are undoubtedly taking cues from their mom's sense of style. Their style is very relaxed and fun, yet pulled together and chic. I'd rock either of these looks any day... at age 28! If I had to choose, I'd go with Malia's look to ReStyle. Find my interpretation of this look in Get The Look.

A Pop of Color

Morning Chica's. It's frigid near Boston, below freezing, but I believe a pop of color warms even a cold winter day!

Winter Layers

Morning Chica's! I'm back to school and back to studying, writing papers and taking tests, but I could not forget to post my first day outfit.

Layers aren't just trending. I literally had to layer today because it's so freakin' cold in New England. There was snow on the ground and I was not a happy camper. I should be used to the weather since I've lived here all my life... BUT I'M NOT! I'll never get used to the frequently changing weather.

Back to the outfit: I pulled out my favorite boots and clutch and thought denim would be warm. Call me crazy, but I didn't want to wear a heavy coat today. (You said, "Where they do that at???" Here. LOL) I am wearing nude hosiery though. I'm not completely foolish. Anywho, I grabbed my denim blazer from the closet and this Land's End chambray shirt, but it wasn't warm enough when I went outside. I missed my first bus, but ran back inside and paired the look with this sweater from Old Navy.

I'm warm now and the sun's coming out so maybe I won't totally regret not wearing jeans or leggings. My only regret: This skirt is way too light weight for a windy day. I'm sure I flashed this guy getting off the bus, but overall, I love it and I feel great in it.

Sincerely,
A GeekChicChica

Marshalls Madness

So, I went window shopping yesterday and spotted some pretty awesome pieces that I need in my wardrobe at Marshalls. Check out my finds!

Texture, texture, texture! I like this red-orange colored handbag.

I love navy and white together. There something very regal and classic about it. A step up from black and white. This cardi would go great with some mint green skinnies and the red studded bag (scroll all the way down)! Yeeeesssssss!!!

I have a handbag in this color that needs to be replaced. I'm thinking this is definitely an option!

 I love leopard!

Surprised that these were only $24.99 by Fergie.

The jury is still out on this one, but I was attracted to it in the store :)

Very Sherlock Homes, huh? Different is the new perfect.

I'm going back for these electric blue booties! $31 on clearance.

This electric blue pump is fire! A pop of color never hurt anyone.

At $39.99 this hangbag looks super chic and expensive with the gold hardware. Getting this too!

When I saw this I thought about Tina Turner for some reason... fabulous!

Last, but not least the red, studded bag! I want this so bad. It's the perfect color red for me!

Polka Dots & Gold Chains

I love this royal blue polka dot dress. Of course, it's thrifted, but it has undergone a some alterations. It's been taken in from a size 24 to a 16/18 and shortened from ankle length to just above the knees.

I paired the dress with gold accessories. The necklace does double duty as a necklace and a strap for my black croc clutch. The gold shoes have a clear wedge heel which I adore!

My outfit cost: $19.97 without a handbag.

THRIFTAHOLIC!

So, I've set out on a mission to commit to 28 days of thrifting every single day of February. Yes, I admit I have a slight addiction to thrifting and this may not be the best therapy, but who doesn't love finding fabulous clothing and accessories at dirt cheap prices?!?! LOL Check regularly to see my updates beginning Friday, February 1 at 2:28 AM!

Mellow Yellow

Hey Chica's, Happy Saturday! Today was a very low-key day for me, but of course I still dress for any possible occassion. If you know me, you know I loooovvvveee bright colors; hot pinks are my very favorite and I love me some yellow! I had my two girls with me today (no school) so being comfortable is an absolute must.

I bought this skirt in yellow and coral from Old Navy on clearance for $3.00 each. The skirt is cotton, very lightweight (not the best option for windy days btw, unless you want a Marilyn Monroe moment) and breathable. The white tee is a heavier cotton with a little spandex also from Old Navy ($8.50).

These mustard flats... I adore! Super comfortable and because of the color against my complexion, can be easily worn as a "nude" neutral with several outfits. These were $10.

The rest of my outfit is thrifted. My dark wash denim blazer was $4.98, the yellow wooden beaded necklace was $1.98, and the light brown clutch with a woven detail (see below) was $2.98.

My outfit's total cost: $31.44! Wow, I can't believe how little I spend to look so fabulous sometimes. I live for a sweet deal!

I was feeling very mellow in my yellow today :)

Denim On Denim

I used to believe you couldn’t mix denim and look super chic… but I was wrong. Yes, I admit! In this outfit I mixed a light Chambray button-up shirt that ties at the waist with my favorite pair of dark wash, wide leg jeans; threw on a scarf because although the sun was out, it was a little nippy in the shade. I wore this outfit with my camel-colored boots, a chucky blue and gold necklace and geek specs.

As for my hair… I call it the Insta-bun! Probably the most ingenious and effortless hair style ever… I just pulled my hair into a pony tail and pinned on my Insta-bun and I was all set!

Chambray shirt: Land’s End ($6), Used to be a dress, but I liked it better as a shirt :)
Dark Wash Jeans: I got these from Sears of all places in the plus section ($12)
Scarf: Old Navy ($4.99)
Necklace: Thrifted ($1.98)
Boots: Dots ($26 I think)
Geek Specs: Were a pair of cheap sunglasses that I popped the lenses out of

TOTAL: $50.97

Chanel-Inspired Croc Clutch

Hey Chica's! Check out my latest thrift find: A Chanel-Inspired Croc Clutch!

I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THIS CLUTCH that I spotted from about 20 feet away while rummaging through dress racks at my local thrift store. I saw the chain handle first. Maybe it was the sparkle of the gold chain that caught my eye, but I immediately thought "Chanel!"... I dropped what I was doing and moved quickly to the handbags section. It wasn't Chanel, but this was probably better since I've been dying to find a Croc Clutch forever that didn't cost me an arm and a leg (smile).

As soon as I got home, I threw my other bags on the floor to try on outfits that would go with my amazing find. I fell in love with everything about it. Not only was it a purse, but the chain was removable so I could carry it as a clutch depending on my outfit... but wait! That's not all. I hooked the ends of the gold chain together and threw it around my neck as a necklace! I could double it, too! (I am such a genius btw lol) You can't get much better than finding an item that has not 1, not 2, but 3 super chic functions!

Even if that isn't enough excitement over one little purse... I only paid $1.98 for it. BANG!!! My day has been made lol

Sincerely,
A GeekChicChica

The Launch

Hey fashionista’s! If you’re like me, you spend hundreds of hours thumbing through fashion magazines, googling the latest celebrity looks and creating looks with the pieces you like, and yet there’s still something missing for me; my fashion appetite remains undernourished. I figured out that it’s not enough for me to just look, but I want to dive head first into fashion, more specifically plus-size fashion. I want all the designs I’m dreaming about and wake up to sketch to be real and in my closet… in your closet! So, I’ve decided to take my sketches beyond my desk and launch my own line!

Of course, you’re thinking this is great news! And it is, but I know there’s a ton of work ahead of me if I want samples on a runway by the fall. The designs have already been sketched so that’s a start. Now it’s time to find a seamstress/dressmaker who can bring my creations to life. I mean, I can work with him/her since I sew myself and I definitely feel like I’m a hands on kind of designer :)

If that isn’t enough, I’m also writing up business plans to launch my very own plus-size fashion boutique… Chic Chica! I’m super excited about the plan and getting things moving! I’ll keep you guys in the loop :)

A GeekChicChica
